At AgroChemex we strive not only to provide the best and most appropriate research and development capabilities, but also to offer quality specialist consultancy services to the amenity, land management and grounds maintenance industries. Expertise has been gained in many areas from urban and industrial weed control to nature conservation and upland management. Weed Control Advice & Policy Guidance We are regularly called upon to provide independent advice on weed control and vegetation management by local authorities, utilities companies and NGOs. Advice typically focuses on providing the most appropriate solution for a weed or land use problem utilising chemical or non-chemical methods of control, as appropriate. Where pesticide use is identified then the most efficacious and environmentally friendly product is selected. We can provide guidance on the design and implementation of weed control policies and can produce the specifications. Weed Control Training & Audit Among our many services, we offer training for operators and contractors to ensure they are fully familiar with all aspects of weed control from the legislation through to actual herbicide usage and best practice. Programmes are designed with the client’s needs clearly at the centre. A full technical backup service can also be provided. Training is usually followed up by site audits with a number of sites being spot checked during the year to assess the performance of individual herbicide applications and the overall effectiveness of weed control programmes, and their local environmental impact. The introduction of the audit process enables constant monitoring of operator or contractor performance and in-season feedback allows improvements to be continually incorporated into weed control practice.
The programmes usually pay for themselves via improved and more cost effective specifications and improved weed control practice, frequently leading to a reduction in pesticide applications or incidents of re-treatment, thus further reducing costs and environmental burden. Bio-security Problems Alien and invasive weeds are becoming an increasing problem throughout the UK with even the most remote areas suffering ecological damage as a result of the arrival and spread of such species. As legislation tightens the importance of effective control and an ability to reduce or eliminate spread is becoming ever important if bio-diversity is to be maintained and litigation avoided. Control of problem species such as Japanese Knotweed, Ragwort, Giant Hogweed, Rhododendron and Bracken is a key area of expertise.
